Program

What We Offer

BIOS gives startups and innovative PMI the opportunity to develop a Proof of Concept (PoC) in Sardinia, in collaboration with the program’s corporate partners.

A dedicated pathway combining technical, financial, logistical, and operational support, designed to accelerate the industrialization of bio-based technologies and guide them toward their first market traction.

Grant

Grant: €40,000 for each selected project, supporting the development and testing activities of the Proof of Concept (PoC).

Industrial Application Support

Technical and market mentors work closely with the team throughout the project, supporting both technology development and business model validation in real production environments, with access to industrial know-how and facilities.

Dedicated support for funding opportunities available to companies with an operational presence in Sardinia, including:

  • incentive programs for innovative companies, with non-repayable grants covering up to 90% of eligible costs;

  • support for research and development projects, with grants covering up to 80%;

  • access to the expertise, infrastructure, and services of the Sardinia Ricerche Renewable Energy Platform.

Available Calls and Eligibility Requirements

Methodological Support & Agile Project Management

The program’s operating partners facilitate collaboration between corporates and startups, supporting teams throughout execution by applying an agile extreme project management methodology, with prioritized backlogs, sprints, reviews, and shared KPIs.

Verticals

  • Agri-industrial waste valorization – converting agricultural residues into high-value ingredients, biomolecules, and feedstocks.

  • Advanced sorting and recycling technologies – high-yield sorting and recovery processes for heterogeneous waste streams, from field to plant.

  • WEEE and thermoplastics recycling – value chains to extract metals, polymers, and rare earth elements, closing the loop on technical waste.

  • Biostimulants – biological solutions that increase crop yield and resilience while reducing chemical inputs.

WASTE AGRITECH

  • Next-generation biofuels – fuels produced from biomass and waste to support the decarbonization of transport and industrial processes.

BIOFUELS

  • Genetics – genetic selection and enhancement of high-yield, resilient varieties, supporting sustainability and climate-change adaptation.

  • Nutraceuticals and coPMItics – clean active ingredients and formulations developed through bio- and green-chemistry processes.

  • Coatings and paints – low-impact coatings delivering high technical performance (barrier, anticorrosion, antibacterial).

Green Chemistry

  • Sustainable compounds – high-performance biocomposites and polymer blends as alternatives to fossil-based materials.

  • Textiles and fibers – natural and regenerated fibers and eco-compatible treatments for circular fashion and interior design value chains.

  • Additive manufacturing – 3D printing with bio-based and recycled feedstocks, enabling circular design and waste reduction.
